A Wave Of Importance

In the past month, there have been two mid-line waves that struck a chord. Yes, they're both Deluxe riders. Yes, I'm biased. Great, now that we've got that out of the way, let's talk about why they're important. If Kareem Campbell's mid-line pager check from 20 shot sequence comes to mind, good, you're old enough to have watched it or heard about it endlessly at the shop growing up.

While a wave or a point to pedestrians doesn't compare to a pager check, they're in the same realm. In one simple hand gesture, a preconceived, methodical string of tricks through a set environment becomes as fluid as a cruise to the corner store dodging cars and sewer caps along the way.

Brings on that feeling of disbelief the first time seeing an older kid casually ollie up a curb rolling through town or watching your first skate video from the city before knowing how they really worked. Thinking all those lines through traffic were first try on the way from one spot to the next. They're all just that good. And a lot probably were.

It catches you off guard, pulls you in by the collar, and says this is as pure as it gets. Reminds you of that vain side of yourself that started pushing this wood toy around in the first place.

They made the hard seem easy and looked damn cool doing it.

Some have it; some want it. But no one can fake it.
