Community From Place

This weekend I saw into the future, and it looked bright.

I've been involved in several skate shops, but this was the first time seeing one set out on their very first day.

Within a three-hour opening event, I saw the seeds of a communities future begin to unfold. I saw the kid who learns to take photos to capture their friends. The young artist experiencing their art hung on the walls, printed on a t-shirt, and one day on a board. The feeling of a room packed with people screaming for a video made by a small group of friends. The kid who goes from idolizing the staff behind the counter to becoming one themselves. The place to gather when things aren't good at home. The place where every Saturday begins and comes to an end. The place to be encouraged.

You may think I'm overselling it, but I really don't think so. If you've ever been part of a skate shop, you know it's true. With the right people behind it, the community that follows and the lives it changes are never-ending.

There is magic in this space. A community built from place.
